UIA update

Its been 6 months since the story about Mark Reyland making a copy of an inventor " friend " of  his, colander invention that is currently under a licensing contract by this lady ( Who is a friend ).

Every UIA board member is fully aware of Mark Reylands copy that was submitted to Lifetime brands by UIA president Warren Tuttle in executive director of the UIA Mark Reylands behalf.

They even had the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney asking for a pause in informing corporate sponsors of the UIA unethical practices pending an investigation conducted by UIA board members and their law firm. The letter from Dorsey & Whitney clearly says they are " undertaking an assessment of the allegation's ". http://uialiesreyland.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Emails were sent to this firm asking about their assessment results. NO reply from Dorsey & Whitney. No comment from the UIA board members. Mark Reyland is still in charge of the UIA 6 months later. He was never suspended pending the " assessment of allegation's " and still is free and unpunished to do as he pleases at the UIA.

This man took a mom from Texas's invention and attempted to exploit it for his own financial gain. The UIA played part of this, Joe Fournier FORMER corporate sponsor director, made the CAD's ( at Mark Reylands insistence, Joe is a friend of the lady also ) of Mark Reylands copy colander. Warren Tuttle President of the UIA ( also a friend of the lady inventor and was the one who got her invention licensed ) took the copy with full knowledge that it was a copy of his clients product that he successfully licensed for this lady, to the company where he is a scout and presented it for a licensing deal on Mark Reyland's behalf. Lifetime said no they didn't like it, so on a flight on UIA board member AJ Khubani's private jet in route to a UIA event, Mark Reyland then presented his copy of the colander to AJ. AJ didn't like it. And to top it all off, the materials to make the copy of a mom from Texas's invention for Mark Reyland to bump her out of the market and obtain his own licensing deal were purchased with a UIA credit card ( we have copies of the receipt's ).

Now with just this 1 claim backed with fact, any ethical non profit organization would have demanded Mark Reyland's resignation from its organization.
 http://lesiasinventionworld.blogspot.com/2013/05/answers-to-questions-regarding-mark.html

Its like being the director of a non profit wife abuse organization and beating your wife behind closed doors and the board knows about and has been shown the victim but chooses to sweep it under the rug.

The UIA was founded to be a voice for inventors and setting an ethical standard in the industry and to educate inventors for free.

What the UIA is now, is an organization that exploit's inventors products ( proven in the link above ) and accepting sponsorship fees from companies that are not background checked to profit from inventors. It has no or little educational value other than Mark Reyland's distorted blog posts.

This non profit wont reprimand or remove an executive director that violated the inventors they  represent. Companies still are sponsor's of them, the board still allows it.

We have been told that this blog is referred to as " the hate blog " by Mark Reyland and his supporters. He tells everyone that we are a group of  "disgruntled inventors with a goal of  putting a bullet in his head " and  " his wife left him in fear for her safety  ". He tells people that  " he lives in constant fear and lives at sevearl location's so we wont seek him out and  put a bullet in his head ".And anyone that associates with us is going to get " the kiss of death " in the industry.

Here is the truth, we do not wish any harm to Mark Reyland, we want him removed from his position  at the UIA because of his unethical behavior. We want the UIA to restructure and have board members who take their responsibilities on behalf of the independent inventors seriously and care enough to act in a timely manner when an inventor is mistreated, abused, exploited, ripped off.

We are the inventors that want better, we are you and you us. We have seen this get so far out of control for so long with no one to step up and be a voice for all inventors wellbeing. We did and continue and will continue until we have an ethical non profit that doesn't support their executive directors lifestyle with funds to help inventors. A non profit that wont sell out to companies with questionable reputations to fund themselves and pay for their trips and parties with funds for inventors.

After all of this information on this blog alone with proof of every allegation to warn inventors and sponsor's, we are called a " hate blog " we are the " kiss of death " and " want to kill Mark Reyland ", ( which none of us would even hurt him much less serve a life sentence to " Kill Him "). Its crazy and getting totally ridicules with Mark Reylands claims for sympathy that he tells anyone that will listen.

The truth is, without the UIA Mark Reyland is a nobody, they fully fund his lifestyle, they give him the spotlight he so desperately needs. With his claims of thousands of successful selling products on the market, why does he use the UIA credit card to purchase home improvement items. pay for his wife's car registration, groceries while in his home town, dinners while in his home town and items to copy an inventors invention ( we have copies of the receipt's ).

Truth is because he lives off that UIA credit card to fund inventors best interest. Its been abused and continues to be abused. We have seen copies of all his expense receipts provided by an ex employee of the UIA.

He will do anything and say anything to hold on to all that the UIA gives him.

Has anyone ever heard of Mark Reyland before being the UIA executive director ?

ITS NOT HATE, ITS THE BRUTAL TRUTH, AND THE UIA CANT PROVE ANY OF THIS IS NOT TRUE. THEY JUST SAY NOTHING AT ALL.

But unfortunately its the ONLY non profit inventor resource.

Also we would like to add that the UIA and QVC sprouts, Fund a Geek site is dead and for sale.
The UIA boasted the inventors were getting funding via Fund a Geek like a "rocket ".

Perhaps its the UIA that is " the kiss of death " after all.

                                                     THEN

FundaGeek Partners With Inventors' Group

Yucca Valley-based FundaGeek, an online, crowdfunding site headed by Dan Gutierrez, said this week that it has entered into a partnership with the United Inventors Association of America (UIA). According to FundaGeek, the group will use FundaGeek as a crowdfunding resource to help inventors with projects. The two firms also said they are working with home shopping channel QVC, as part of a new program called QVC Sprouts. That deal calls for inventors with retail ready products to be selected and placed on the QVC website, and to be given the chance to give sales presentations on QVC. The firms did not detail how FundaGeek ties into those efforts.

 From Mark Reyland
"Knowing that funding is often the largest obstacle an inventor will face – it is our pleasure to introduce a program we have been working on for many months with a company we have come to respect called FundaGeek. This program uses a relatively new process for gaining funding in small increments from people all over the world. The process is called “Crowd Funding” and although it takes a dedicated effort on your part, it has become a proven and successful way of funding invention projects."

Subject: UIA

Hello UIA board members,

Its been 1 month since the story about Mark Reyland copying an invention for personal gain. Not just any inventor, but someone he knew. Your UIA president presented this copy to Lifetime Brands to be considered for a licensing contract. Warren helped the inventor Lesia Farmer { the inventor that was copied by Mark Reyland } obtain a licensing contract from Lifetime Brands that is still active. Now Warren is not obligated to show Lifetime Brands every submission he receives, he instead Scouts for products of possible interest to Lifetime Brands. So there was no obligation to represent Mark Reyland as a client { or show them }. It was Warrens choice to represent Mark Reyland and show Lifetime Brands { although he and Mark may not have had a contract between them, he was still presenting it on Mark Reylands behalf }. Now would Warren have done this for the average inventor with the copy mark Reyland made ? Im not being sarcastic here, but if you saw it you would think it came from a preschool inventing contest, it had no possibility of being market in its current design. But this is not the issue here, the issue is that Warren even himself said it didn't have a chance but still submitted it for Mark Reyland. But for the relationship between Mark Reyland and Warren Tuttle it would most likely not been submitted to Lifetime Brands if it were a submission from an average inventor.

This is a conflict of interest and could have possibly harmed Leisa Farmers licensing contract with Lifetime Brands. On top of this and the main reason for all of this outrage over the matter, is the executive director of a non profit inventor resource { meaning its existence is to help independent inventors } made a copy of an inventor friend of his without her consent. He went so far as to ask Lesia Farmer for her patent application so he could design around the claims. She wisely refused to show him and wasn't happy about Mark Reyland trying to make a knock off of her newly licensed product. Is this the help your UIA is offering, to copy and interfere with existing licensing contracts and presenting them to the same company that has the licensing contract in place ?

For this reason alone Mark Reyland should be removed from his position with in the UIA. Also it puts a huge question mark over your UIA presidents participation in all of this. His hands are not clean of this issue, he was involved. Also Lifetime Brands rejected Warren and Mark Reylands knock off submission. but did it end there ? No Mark Reyland then showed it to AJ Kubani on his jet on its way to an event to see if he was interested.

Now everyone of you UIA board members are fully aware of the accusations against Mark Reyland and Warren Tuttle for unethical practices within your organization.

Also I would like to discuses Russell Williams board member and owner of Invention Home and Submit My Invention submission services. Submit my Invention is a software Invention submission site that sends your invention submissions to selected companies such as Rubbermaid, Irwin tools, Crown Bolt and other reputable companies. Once your submission is rejected by these companies an email is sent from Submit My Invention to the inventor acting as the companies that were submitted to. It goes on to say { These are actual emails sent from Submit My Invention }

IRWIN Tools

These emails are signed as the companies, but these companies did not send them and notice the senders address. They did not write the endorsement of Invention Home. Invention Home and Submit My Invention and Russell Williams did. Its a LIE and FRAUD !

Its special interest that sends the rejected inventors to Invention Home for Invention Home to profit from ! And its being pushed by the UIA to be part of the sponsor's service agreement. Again conflict of interest and totally unethical to lie to these trusting inventors .

So who is the UIA serving by lying and coping inventions, who is really benefiting and profiting from all of this.

All this and more has been brought to your UIA president Warren Tuttle's attention, yet he does nothing ! I recently sent Warren an email saying I wanted to give him a chance to deal with this issue before I contacted board members and sponsor's. His reply " I will be sending this, and any further threatening e-mails, to the Port Saint Lucie police department. " So as you can see this issue will not be handled in the manner which is appropriate, his relationship With Mark Reyland is too strong. So now Im asking each of the UIA board members to address this in a manner that it warrant's.

Any ethical organization would have suspended Mark Reyland until a full investigation took place, weighted the facts and addressed it accordingly. But not Warren Tuttle, he allows Mark Reyland to post on Linked In and on the UIA blog and UIA facebook all his self promoting propaganda. This shows inventors its an " in your face " issue " just deal with it ".

I for one will not rest until the UIA addresses this issue in a public forum. You have the UIA BlogSpot and Facebook and Linked In so your voice can be heard. This is a public issue because you are a non profit and they are suppose to be transparent and represent the public interest.

Everyone of you board members are responsible from this day forward because Im alerting you to the issue's here and now. Seeing that this is an inventor issue and concerns all inventors, I will be posting this email on a public blog for all to see that you have all been notified. And any replies will be posted publically as well and no response will also be posted as " didn't reply back ".

This is a reflection of each of you board members and how you handle serious issues involving the UIA. Also it reflects how you conduct business and if you address issues of simply wait for the storm to die. It show you as individuals and how and if you really care about the inventors best interest.

You can thank Mark Reyland for all of this and Warren Tuttle for putting each one of you in this position. If Warren Tuttle would have handled it in a timely and professional manner and Mark Reyland would have just quieted down and not keep posting on Linked In and on the UIA BlogSpot and UIA facebook, you would have not to had to be contacted and put in this position awaiting a public reply.

I have made a deal with Warren Tuttle that anything posted on these blog's are a lie, I would see that its removed and an apology posted in its place. He has yet to find any and he was looking also ! Im making this same offer to each and everyone of you as well.

Now each one are fully informed and I would be happy to post your reply to show you do care and take your positions in our industry seriously. If you don't reply I guess we will take it as not a serious issue and you side with Warren Tuttle and Mark Reyland and condone the way they handle it and do the same.

Remember, this is for all inventors to show them you care and take your responsibilities' as UIA board members seriously !

Thank you
John Young

Warren,

What will be your complaint to the Port Saint Lucie police, what laws am I breaking ? Please inform me immediately of this and I will cease at once. Incase you haven't noticed these are company and personal email addresses, not UIA email addresses. So until I get a request from any one of them to stop all contact, I'm not breaking any laws. I'm not threatening or harassing them, I'm only informing them of what I know to be the truth.

If the vice president of the United States is acting in an unethical manner that puts Americans at risk, one might contact the president. If the president fails to address it, then one might contact congress. And if that fails to get action taken on behalf of the American public, one might alert the public. Its called freedom of speech and I am exercising that right.

If any of my claims or accusations are deemed false, then take me to court and sue me for defamation and slander. Otherwise you have no right to threaten me with police action when I within the boundaries of the law.

So I am following the proper protocol on behalf of all inventors interest and wellbeing.

As for the board members, if anyone of them want me to stop contacting them because they have no interest in UIA issues. Have the ones who feel this way, send me an email requesting I stop all contact. I would be more than happy to make it a public record and post it for all to see that I have been warned, and I will comply with that request.

Considerately, many of your emails and public posts are erroneous, filled with nothing more than ill conceived conjecture. Your primary purpose is to be disruptive, and at times even threatening. You have lost any credibility with your long trail of documented communications, so we ask that you stop contacting us. I have asked you already to stop contacting me personally and and yet you continue. The Police have already directly warned you, in person, not to continue contacting people if they request you not to. It appear you are not getting the message. This is unfortunate. Counsel will draft a more formal reply that will be used in the future from all UIA Board members when you contact or otherwise harass them and if you still continue, all of your emails will be turned over to the appropriate authorities. Thanks for understanding.

John,

The UIA is a not for profit organization and it is not against the law to email the board of directors especially with information that is happening within the organization. It actually will help with he case we have and allow all of them to be educated.

The Port Lucie police do not care about your emails as long as they are not threatening and yours was not. You do not have to stop sending them as long as all you say is the truth. Please copy me on all your emails. The UIA is a not for profit educational organization set up to educate inventor of which you are one of. Keep your emails because Warrens email was a threat.

Warren ,

This is the first time you have asked me not to contact you. Your last email saying anything about non contact said " I do not wish to receive any more threatening e-mails." So this is what you wrote to me, it didn't say I wish for no more contact, it said  " no more threatening emails " and none of these emails have been threatening. So now I have a clear request for no contact, I will abide by the request.

As for other board members, you cant speak for them and have no right speaking on their behalf. Just so you fully understand what the PSL police requested of me, it was not to contact Mark Reyland via email or other communication. They never brought up the name Warren Tuttle and I was never asked not to contact UIA board members.

AS for your comment here " many of your emails and public posts are erroneous , filled with nothing more than ill conceived conjecture " I offered you the opportunity to show me anything that was false { a lie } and I would see that it was removed and an apology put in its place. You failed to do so  everything remains.

As far as me threatening you, you have a strange definition of it. But you in turn clearly threaten me with police action, strait of the Mark Reyland intimidation training book.

You and only you have received my last email to you and this email is confirmation that I have received it.

{ UPDATE AS OF JULY 3RD MARK REYLAND REMAINS ACTIVE WITH THE UIA, Shamelessly self promoting and remaining active on LinkedIn. Not a day missed posting on the UIA BlogSpot, nor promoting the posts on LinkedIn.  We think this little blonde lady speaks for the disregard of the UIA and its sponsor's allowing him to remain their spokesman. }

Mark T. Reyland
Mark T. Reyland • In 1870 Congress passed a law rescinding the requirement that your invention actually work. Opening the door for a system that regularly awards patent protection on "ideas" instead of "Inventions"

The unintended result of this change was the development of patent Trolls, who (just like their little brothers did with domain names in the 90's) squat on idea patents until some inventor decides to solve the problem, or some company brings it to market for us as consumers to use, and then they beat him up for a quick buck.

The founding fathers always intended to create a system that rewards inventors (not innovators, or idea people) by giving them societal protection for the work they did in making things that help all of us. In fact, they felt so strongly about this issue that they put it in the constitution. That's right, the protection afforded inventors for their inventions is written right in the US Constitution.

My own opinion is that Jefferson and the boys never intend to provide patent protection on ideas - simply because until 1880 you were required to present a working model of your invention to the USPTO - that alone clearly shows the intent behind the patent system.

Idea patents are a more modern twist to the process and their exploitation was, and is, inevitable.

So can you patent ideas in the US patent system? sure, and since 1880 when the USPTO implemented the 1870 change - millions of people have.
Ann Smith • Patents are protection from others capitalizing on all your hard work and success. Then you have people who just try to design around it and dip in some of your gravy.

Mr Reyland, How can you show your face and talk about protection, when you tried to design around a product that your friend had licensed successfully. Not only that, you use your UIA board members to help exploit that ladies invention.

You abused your position and trust to protect and help inventors. This is fine with the UIA that as serving as their executive director you design around another inventor that you know and claim to of helped.

I just think anyone serving on the UIA board should remain neutral in the inventing industry. Not trying to steal from inventors for personal financial gain.

You did this and the UIA knows and knew about it, but you still show your face with no shame and try to represent the inventors that you tried to steal from. It makes me sick to see you on these forums. The UIA has lost all creditability because of you and a female mom almost lost her contract with your interference and attempt to take from her. There is no excuse for this behavior, none at all, its a slap in the face to all inventors for you to be hear preaching what your self violate.

No one else will speak up and tell you what a @$!^% scumbag you are, but I will.

You are the lowest of the low, please do us all a favor and leave !
Ann Smith • I sorry but this really bothers me that Mark Reylland is still around after all he has done to this female inventor.

Paula Deen, looses all of her sponsor's and is criticized for saying she once used the " N " work. She was honest and sorry for it. My husband is an African American and our child is half of each race. She goes though all of this for saying something all of us said or thought at least once in our lives. She is pretty much ruined.

Now we have Mr. Reyland here, he tries to design around a inventor he knows and represents. The UIA board knows of this and they are dirty also. But Mr Reyland can still show his face like nothing ever happened. He wont address it and the UIA is doing nothing. So we are stuck with him, he is being forced on us and just loves himself so much that he cant even be quite for at least a while.

Paula is paying a huge price for much less, but here's a guy that has totally abused our trust, put us at risk and flat out lies to us about who he is and what he has done in the industry.

I have to ask the UIA why? Why do you keep this guy that has violated our trust and continue to allow him to represent your sponsor's and some are reputable companies.

Why aren't the UIA sponsors dropping the UIA like they drop Paula Deen.

This shows that our industry has no regulations or ethical standards to abide by.
Im sorry for going on about this, but its not right.

UIA board member owned Invention Home under investigation by Irwin Tools for sending an email acting as Irwin Tools promoting Invention Home.

New update as of 7/19/13....Invention Home post false licensing stories to have inventors think their licensing success rate is higher than it really is.

We have spoken to 2 inventors out of 6 contact attempts to inventors listed as licensed via Invention Home. Only 2 replied back to our requests for information about their supposed licensing deals. The 2 that did reply back said they had gotten no licensing deals as posted by Invention Home. The first one was a lady said to have gotten a licensing deal via Invention Home. She told us that Invention Home put her in contact with a company and the deal fell through and nothing ever happened. The 2ND was a man said to have a licensing deal via Invention Home. He told us that no deal ever happened. They contacted Invention Home advised by us to have it removed because #1 its a lie and #2 someone that has interest in their invention may Google it and land in Invention Homes website and see its listed as licensed and pass on it. None of this is good for any inventors, not the ones reading the lies or the ones being lied about. We were told by these 2 inventors that Invention Home said it was a " blurp " and would remove it. Now we wonder how many of the others listed as Licensed are " blurps " also. This is what we THINK they are doing. They put you in touch with a company willing to look and as soon as they agree to review it Invention home at the Invention Home lists it as a successful licensing deal. 2 responded back and 2 had no deals but Invention Home bragged them as successes when nothing ever happened.

So by this info posted just here alone with the lies about the licensing success and the lies sent to inventors submitting via Invention Homes Submit my Invention story below as companies that never sent what inventors thought they did. Also being a board member own companies by Russell Williams of the United Inventors Association who has executive director has copied an inventors invention for profit and who's president submitted it to the same company the original was licensed to. Should you trust them ???????? We can only post the facts, You be the judge !

Here is the email this inventor sent Russell Williams owner of Invention Home and Submit My Invention and United Inventors Association board member.

Hi Russ,

Someone sent this to me last night and asked if I had a global licensing agreement through InventionHome and I replied that I had a short stint two years ago with xxx xxxxxx, who was totally busy with his wife with cancer and was never ever there for me, so I had to let him go. I still have nothing to speak of with you. Is this information on your website, letting people think I have something wonderful with you??? To date, I have nothing. When a license agreement doesn't work out, don't you think that by leaving this information on the site, you are costing me the opportunity for an agreement that may be a winner???

Hi xxxxxxx,

Russ at InventionHome said that it was a blurb about the license deal from 2011. I told him I cannot worry that someone will see that and believe I am all hooked up with a great deal, because that is the farthest thing from the truth. He said he will take it out tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up!

So there is proof of their lies about licensing deals from 2011 until the date above, inventors believed it and the inventor was totally unaware that they posted it on the Invention Home website. Lies or " blurps " you decide !!!!!!

Invention Home owned by UIA board member Russel Williams and owner of Submit My Invention aka Jacob enterprises.

 { Google, Jacob enterprises Invention Home complaints rip off and see what you find , Note not every complaint is valid, some are from competing companies discrediting the other, but discussion groups comments are usually accurate because the person complaining is known and individuals that use their names and contact info. }

 { Note we will not post any stories without proof and anything we speculate will be clearly listed as such, we don't want to loose creditability by posting stories from inventors with no proof }

 { What brought this out to our blog was an Inventor that received the email acting as Irwin Tools contacted us and asked to post the story. }

I submitted to Irwin Tools via Invention Homes website. I googled Irwin Tools invention submission and it led me there and claimed Irwin was on a product hunt. I clicked the link and it went to an official Irwin website, so I submitted my personal information which I thought would remain private and only for Irwin. Weeks when by and I got this email from  ( Submit my invention ) and supposedly signed and authored by Irwin Tools.

Hello xxx,

First I would like to thank you for taking the time to investigate this for me. I would like it if you would forward this email to your legal department.

I would like to ask them this. Did Irwin Tools author this email to be sent to me to solicit the services of Invention Home { yes or NO please }

If so What products have been successfully license via Invention home that would warrant this recommendation and positive experience and collaboration with Invention Home. { please provide a list of the inventions successfully licensed via invention Home.

How did Invention get my contact information that I listed privately on your website via Invention Homes ( Submit My Invention ) that Irwin has a contract with ?

And why did Irwin give ( Submit My Invention ) my personal information that I thought was privately submitted to Irwin Tools ?

And since my information that was sent privately to Irwin Tools, was my invention also disclosed to ( Submit My Invention ) ?

Submit My Invention is owned by Invention Homes owner, were you aware of that before contracting with them ?

If your answer is no that Irwin is not responsible for this email sent to me below signed Irwin Tools and have no idea of the breach in private information, let me inform you of what my investigation revealed.

The sent address on the email says Submit My Invention it is CCd to invention home by the owner of both companies. If you google Submit My inventions sent email address it takes you to invention Homes owner. This is a scam to obtain personal information to solicit their company to inventors that Irwin rejected { If Irwin even looked at the invention }. Submit My invention solicits Invention Home for a time, when no correspondence is sent back from the recipient, it goes up for sale and gets sent to companies that pay for the contact information to solicit their companies after Invention Home had their go at them. Now I don't deal with invention submission companies, BUT might consider them if a reputable company like Irwin Tools recommends them so highly. This is misleading to all inventors seeking an honest company like Irwin Tools to work with and if Irwin declines the invention submitted, that should be the end of it. As it is I feel Irwin is responsible for giving my contact information to a questionable submission company and opening the doors for me to get scammed. Russ Williams { the owner of both Submit my Invention and Invention Home } sent me an email trying to explain it. As you will see in his email he did not answer if Irwin authored this email and how he got my personal information or if they saw my invention. He was aware of the accusations because it was posted on linked in inventors groups as a warning along with the sent email signed as Irwin Tools. I sent a reply to his explanation that remains unanswered and no other correspondence and happened.

I would Hope Irwin Tools takes the appropriate action on behalf of inventors and also so it doesn't damage Irwin's reputation working and endorsing an company like Invention Home that has a long list of complaints. I would Hope Irwin ceases all dealings with Submit My Invention and cancels their contract with them for fraud and deceptive behavior putting honest inventors at risk of the scams of invention submission companies and endorsing them.

I hope you give me the courtesy of replying with direct answers as I took the time and still pursue protecting Irwin's name and inventors everywhere. Below you will see the emails sent to me by Irwin and signed by Irwin and The owner Russ Williams email explaining it and my reply that remains unanswered.

Thank You
xxx xxxxx

xxx,
I wanted to follow up on your LinkedIn post from last week. I saw the post with the email below included and since this was the only email I received on 10/11/12 at 11:18am, I figured it was your post.
Please let me clarify so you don't get the wrong idea about the submission and email from Irwin Tools.
About two years ago, we had an opportunity to help a large organization streamline their process of receiving and evaluating incoming product submissions from outside sources. As a result, we developed an online submission management system that enabled the organization to accept, review and evaluate their product submissions (i.e.: their own system). The system saved them a lot of time and made the whole process very easy to manage.
Afterwards, we realized that if we could provide other companies with the same ability to accept and manage product submissions we could create a lot of value and streamline the process for how companies manage their incoming submissions. Plus, it would provide us with a much more efficient way of sharing our inventor client's products with our company clients.
Today, we have a lot of companies that use this system to manage their process, Irwin is one of them. When you submitted to Irwin Tools, you submitted directly to them through their submission system, linked to their website. Here's the page on their website - http://www.irwin.com/about-us/contact-us (click the "click here" link on the inventor line). We just pointed directly to this submission form from our blog. To learn more about our system and how it works, go to www.submitmyinvention.com.
Also, please understand that this is an independent system or piece of online software that each company uses and manages on their own. Although, we give them the system, we don't have anything to do with managing the information or the inventors who submitted to them. I believe a system like this is a win/win for everyone involved... Here's why....
1. We now have a better way to convince more and more companies to embrace "open innovation" and accept outside inventor opportunities by making it much easier for them to manage. Everyone wins if more companies are willing to license inventions from outside sources.
2. This opens the door for inventors to submit directly to these companies at no cost (i.e.: what you did with Irwin Tools).
3. We also help promote companies to the inventor community, thus driving opportunities directly to them at no cost. Note: We call this a "Product Hunt" and we do not charge the company to market them nor do we charge the inventors to submit to the companies (it's a win/win). We'd like to start doing more of these Hunts each month.
4. Once a company begins using our system to manage all of their own incoming innovation, we have a more efficient and streamlined way to electronically submit our client's products directly to these companies with a higher level of attention. Please keep in mind that we do not charge large fees to inventors and we never lock them up into a contract limiting their marketing options.
Since these companies are able to see first-hand how we're able to share our clients products with a wide range of companies, many of them recommend us to the inventors of the products they pass on. Hence the email you received below.
Finally, I'm not sure what your invention is but, since it is in the Tool category, I can provide you with some other leads. Both Hyde Tools and Empire Level use our system and I know they are actively looking for new tool products. Not sure how or if yours fits but, you might want to give them a try. Sites - www.hydetools.com and www.empirelevel.com (the submission form links are on their menu bars).
Thank you and best of luck with your invention.
Russ

Russ,

It was not my post, I'm temporarily blocked from linked in because of all the crap with Reyland. I did however post it as a comment on the Mark Reyland blogspot and it was posted as I asked. Someone picked it up from there. Irwin did not author that email as it was, I contacted them and asked, why do they promote a submission company. They know nothing about it, but their legal department is investigating it. So its to streamline the process? Well would you like to tell me how you got the info I submitted to them on their website. You have my info and I got a call from your company soliciting services, also 2 other companies called me. So you got and gave {well actually you sold } my personal info I sent to Irwin. I know this because I purposely missed their calls and played phone tag and left my email as a contact and show interest in their services. I learned they bought my info by acting interested in their services and being buddy buddy with them. I have it in an email with the name of the company that sold it. Would you like to guess who that company is that sold personal info that I submitted to Irwin ? Also if you saw that from their " site " you also had access to what I submitted. So that's my personal info you got under fraudulent means as well as my I.P. Rights have been violated.

You cant violate privacy issues to sell and promote for profit. I didn't want a submission company to see my info, it was for Irwin, and its fair to say they are less than pleased with you using them to defraud  inventors.

{ Now Warren Tuttles defence of Mark Reyland, his accomplishments outweighs his lies and deception, seems to be what Warren is saying }

From the UIA Board President

My name is Warren Tuttle and I am the President of the Board of Directors for the United Inventors Association.
It is my sincere pleasure to donate a considerable amount of volunteer time and effort to the pursuit of non-profit inventor education. For those who do not know me personally, I have never accepted a dollar of upfront money from any inventor that I have ever assisted…and there have been many thousands with whom I have helped one way or another along the way. I have been incredibly blessed to participate in the launch of some highly successful and innovative products over the years. I also direct a cutting edge Open Innovation Program for a dynamic, inventor friendly company. Perhaps this will help explain why I have never charged an inventor a fee for my time or advice. I wish only the best for every aspiring inventor in this country, and like many other professionals in the industry I do whatever I can to help.
I am writing this column because there are a few things you may not know about the UIA and in particularly Mark Reyland, the Executive Director of the United Inventors Association.
I am here pledging my support and personal reputation within the greater inventor community to help explain several behind the scenes things about Mark that many of you may not be aware of, and the tremendous accomplishments he has initiated during the past two years as our Executive Director.
First and foremost, Mark is the most purely dedicated and passionate supporter of inventors that I have ever met. Hands down. Period. I have met many folks who might qualify as finalists for such an honor, but Mark certainly gets my personal vote.
I have spent hundreds of hours speaking with Mark about inventor issues. We speak during the day, late in the evening, Saturdays and Sundays; we even find time to talk when either of us is on extended travel around the US or the world. There is never a time when Mark is not 100% up for the call. This does not mean that we always lock-step agree on every topic that we debate. Sometimes I learn from Mark, and sometimes he learns from me. But, we always dissect the issues and arrive at the place we both know we need to be …what’s best for the inventor. This refrain ultimately guides our course of action in everything we do in this community.
Sometimes Mark’s passion is expressed in unique ways. He is not always a politician. Sometimes people misunderstand his directness. Mark can be very charming, but on occasion, people who do not know Mark inadvertently misinterpret his passion and tremendous focus on getting the task at hand accomplished. For those who know him and see him in action on a regular basis though, we all admire his candor and are always amazed at his knowledge, work ethic and drive. Please know that Mark regularly puts in 60 to 80 hours a week at the UIA and spends upward of 200 days a year traveling between inventor clubs, Washington DC (where he leads the UIA effort to strengthen inventor protection legislation and enforcement ) , meetings, and tradeshows…never complaining.
When we hired Mark as the Executive Director of the UIA two years ago, he was by far the best candidate for the position. I am not just referring to his resume, though in fact his resume is very impressive. Where Mark truly stood out was in the personal interview process. He was screened several different times by the hiring sub-committee of the UIA Board. I then personally spent almost two hours speaking to Mark. I could tell from the opening discussion that he knew the inventor community very well. He had extensive experience in the commercialization of products and a plethora of great ideas about how to improve our organization and help inventors.
It was a critical time for the UIA to get back on track performing the mission it was designed for when originally founded as an extension of the USPTO over 20 years ago. We all agreed unanimously that Mark was the right person to lead the revival.
Mark has not disappointed. He first set about getting our UIA fiscal house in order. He streamlined and cut unnecessary expenses, while immediately setting and executing a course for increasing necessary revenues.
This came at a critical time when the Board had additionally voted to eliminate all fees for UIA inventor memberships, placing greater pressure on Mark to raise working capital through private donations. After two years, the UIA is today in sound fiscal shape. Our corporate membership criteria have been strengthened and many terrific new outside supporters have been generated.
I might add that Mark is now setting our sights on even more non-profit donations, and implementing a grant program that will eventually help diversify overall UIA financial support. By the way, our individual inventor membership has grown by over 260% since Mark came on board, so we must be doing something right.
Mark’s next task was to strengthen a supportive relationship between the UIA and the almost 100 UIA certified inventor clubs around the country. These are real inventors attending club meetings monthly, so this is an incredibly valuable mission. Mark has extended the hand of friendship to these clubs by supplying speakers to the clubs, purchasing Skype kits to allow speakers to present long distance, organizing DRTV product review sessions and traveling himself to over 30 clubs each year to personally thank the club leadership, and make sure the clubs know about the educational tools and the many efforts taking place on their behalf at the national level.
Next came strengthening our UIA Inventor Showcase programs with inventor booths and educational programs at industry trade shows; an incredibly daunting and valuable effort. The UIA had hosted the National Hardware Show Inventor Spotlight Pavilion for several years when Mark became ED and the Board wanted to expand the template. In less than two years, Mark has lead us to host inventor programs at The Chicago Toy and Game show, The PGA Golf Show, International Housewares Show, The SPREE show, The Global Pet Expo, The Craft & Hobby Show, and expended the Hardware show inventor area from 60 to 125 booths with a goal to host Inventor Pavilions at a dozen major industry trade shows.
These trade show deals are very complicated to negotiate and execute. Anyone who has ever experienced one of these events knows how valuable they are to inventors, connecting them with industry leaders and getting actual licensing agreements signed. Today the Inventor Spotlight Trade Show Program is a bell weather asset for the UIA and a successful educational program for inventors.
Here are a few other UIA projects Mark has put a great deal of passion and leadership into over the past two years.
He organized the UIA’s involvement in the current QVC Sprouts program; a big time effort to allow inventor’s easier access to one of America’s finest TV retailers. He has arranged with Auburn University a college level accredited course in inventing that, after initial testing, may be rolled out to universities around the country. He has researched and supported efforts to expand crowd funding financial models to assist inventors in raising capital for start-up ventures. He has helped improve UIA relations with the USPTO and other inventor dedicated non-profit groups and individuals. He has initiated inventor friendly PR campaigns around the country and advised on developing virtual internet inventor clubs to reach more rural communities. He built the UIA Inventor Education Forum, The UIA Education Linkedin Groups, and, he writes a daily inventor blog 5 days a week, in a continuing effort to educate those folks new to the inventing process. These are just some of the things Mark has been responsible for developing.
So, the next time you hear something said, or written, about Mark Reyland, please take a moment to consider all Mark does for the inventor community. These are Real projects, productive initiatives, and results oriented endeavors. I can assure you he is putting his time, day and night, into helping aspiring inventors. He has my respect and that of many other professionals in our industry.
